The starting gun went off at the Bank of Ningbo 2018 Nanjing Xianlin Half Marathon (2018 Xianlin Marathon) in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province on the morning of April 21. Tens of thousands of marathon runners participated in the competition, including those who came from 22 other countries and regions, such as the US, Japan, South Korea, Ethiopia and Kenya.

After intense competition, Kiprop Philip Calvina from Kenya won the men’s race, and Gurmu Belainesh Yami from Ethiopia won the women’s.

The Chinese Athletics Association, the People’s government of Nanjing’s Qixia district and Xianlin University City’s management committee organized the event.

Plenty famous people could be seen watching the race from the sidelines this year. Some celebrities even participated. Among them were three female Olympic champions: Zhou Suhong, Zhang Yuehong and Xu Yunli. Members of the Chinese Women’s Volleyball Team, the trio held their own in the competition.

The competition route covered several famous universities in the district and lots of historical and scenic spots, enabling runners to fully appreciate Nanjing Xianlin’s beautiful landscape.

Coming off of last year’s success, this year’s event saw the use of innovative technologies to optimize registration efficiency. For example, face recognition software was used to reduce the wait time when runners went to collect their competition gear.

The organizers also deployed a new starting method in which they gathered runners in different places and started them off at the same time, which they felt was much safer and more convenient for everyone. Fresh juice and various types of food were also available. The runners could also get ice packs and ice water after the competition.

This year also featured a Domestic Runners Award and a Record Breaker Award to inspire runners to push themselves to record a good score. There were also interesting interactive games that helped to create a happy atmosphere throughout the event.

Migu Interactive Entertainment Co., Ltd is one of the sponsors of the event. As a star product of the company, Migu Xempower is a leading domestic internet+ sports and health platform that integrates high-quality sports industry resources into all of its subsidiary companies.
