An­nual free out­door mu­sic fes­ti­val re­turns to the streets of Shanghai

As spring sweeps Shanghai with warmth and lush green­ness, jazz is also tempt­ing lo­cals back out­side with the sound of mu­sic. JZ Spring 2018, an an­nual jazz mu­sic fes­ti­val, was held from Mon­day to Wed­nes­day along the city’s down­town Nan­jing Road West. With Jing’an Park at its core, the car­ni­val ex­tended to nearby com­mer­cial zones, shop­ping malls and the Shanghai Cen­tre The­atre.

It gath­ered mu­si­cians and artists from more than 20 coun­tries and re­gions; their out­door per­for­mances were free to the pub­lic. Be­sides stage and street per­for­mances, other ac­tiv­i­ties and pro­grams in­cluded the JZ School, which fea­tured jazz per­formed by lo­cal chil­dren, a hand­i­crafts fair and a “selfie wall” where mu­sic lovers cap­tured their mem­o­ries from the car­ni­val.
