Shanghai schools offer foreign language classes
Shanghai educational authorities recently authorized 15 primary and middle schools in the city to become “foreign language learning bases,” Xinmin Evening News reported Monday.
In 2014, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission started a new project to promote foreign languages at the city’s primary and secondary schools; the authority requested Shanghai International Studies University to carry out the project.
Since then, a total of 15 schools in seven districts around the city have opened new curriculum relating to nine foreign languages, including Italian, Portuguese, Osmanli, Hebrew, Swedish, Greek, Thai, Arabic and Farsi.
Around 350 students have attended these courses thus far. Through these courses, primary and secondary school students not only cultivate their foreign language abilities, but also develop a global vision.
