Shanghai celebrates 15th World Blood Donor Day
June 14 is World Blood Donor Day. According to Shanghai Blood Center and Shanghai Blood Management Office, over 500,000 blood donations were collected in Shanghai in 2017; about 362,600 people donated their blood for free in Shanghai in 2017, Xinmin Evening News reported Thursday.
Notably, Shanghai and East China’s Jiangsu Province also signed a cooperation agreement about blood information sharing on Wednesday.
This cooperation aims to improve blood donation services and provide support for inter-provincial emergency blood supplies. The cooperation is expected to be extended to more cities around East China.
For World Blood Donor Day, many activities held in the city highlight voluntary blood donors’ contributions to public health. For example, some landmark buildings in Shanghai are lit up to show respect to voluntary blood donors. A musical recitation was also held to celebrate the festival on Thursday evening.
