Prince­ton stu­dents learn, per­form Pek­ing Opera

A train­ing pro­gram teach­ing 20 Prince­ton Univer­sity stu­dents to learn Pek­ing Opera kicked off in Shang­hai on Mon­day, Knews re­ported.

These stu­dents will at­tend cour­ses from Au­gust 20 to Septem­ber 7, in­clud­ing learn­ing and per­form­ing Pek­ing Opera. They will be able to gain a bet­ter un­der­stand­ing of opera art, Chi­nese tra­di­tional opera cul­ture and Chi­nese aes­thet­ics.

Ad­di­tion­ally, there will be a clos­ing cer­e­mony on Septem­ber 7 for these for­eign stu­dents to per­form Pek­ing Opera that they learned here.

Fa­mous Pek­ing opera artists and prom­i­nent young ac­tors have been in­vited to teach and share their ex­pe­ri­ences.

Ini­ti­ated by Shang­hai Jingju Theatre Com­pany, this pro­gram has been run­ning for more than a decade, aim­ing to pro­mote and pop­u­lar­ize Pek­ing Opera. This is the first over­seas teach­ing course of the pro­gram.
