Guangzhou subways use facial recognition
Guangzhou city has adopted facial recognition technology in its subway stations to help with security checks and to assist passengers with a good social credit record pass quickly.
The facial recognition system is being used in three stations in Guangzhou, capital of South China’s Guangdong Province to make security checks more efficient and to ensure public safety, Guangzhou Daily reported on Friday.
Passengers will get a QR code with their personal information when they pass the security door. They then go through the facial and identity recognition machine, the machine’s manufacturer, PCI Tech, told the Guangzhou Daily.
The security check technology is a combination of biological recognition, big data analysis and other technologies, which can accurately process the passengers’ information, bio information and social credit record.
The system can provide fast pass service for passengers who have a good social record, the report said.
Chinese government has been speeding up the application of facial recognition technology in recent years, which is mostly used to improve security.
This year’s Spring Festival travelers experienced greater convenience and better services at train stations in Chinese cities, such as Beijing and Guangzhou.
Passengers can scan their personal identity cards, tickets and their faces at entrance gate. The door will open if their faces match with photos on their identity cards.
