Young couples Spring Festival dilemma: Whose parents do they visit during the holiday?

A recent survey of 2,001 young Chinese couples showed 70 percent are faced with the dilemma of whose parents to spend the Lunar New Year with.

A tradition of the Spring Festival holiday all but requires young people to travel home to join their family members to celebrate the festival.

Choosing which set of parents to visit and when has become a serious issue.

According to a survey published by the China Youth Daily, 27.7 percent of the respondent­s plan to join the husbands’ parents this year, while 20.6 percent say they will travel to the hometown of the wives’ families, and 33.8 percent say they plan to visit both sets of parents during the seven-day holiday.

“It’s important for Chinese people to reunite with their families during the Spring Festival,” an anonymous Beijing-based office worker said. “We decided to visit both parents and take good care of both sides.”
