Guangzhou cops bust 40 kilos of meth in joint Sino- Australian drug campaign
China has busted three drug trafficking suspects, including one Chinese citizen, and seized 39.9 kilograms of methamphetamine as part of the “China- Australia Operation Blaze,” a major anti- drug campaign that has been ongoing since 2015.
Guangzhou customs and anti- smuggling police officers discovered packages of crystal meth hidden with LED lights that were to be shipped to Australia from a Guangzhou port on November 25. They then launched a special investigation group, Chinanews. com reported on Monday.
This haul of illegal drugs was the largest yet seized as part of the China- Australia joint crackdown on drug smuggling.
Guangzhou police then arrested three suspects linked to the package, including a man from Cote d’Ivoire, a Nigerian and a Chinese national surnamed Liu on January 6.
During the investigation, customs officers told their Australian counterparts that they had intercepted the drugs and the two sides exchanged information, said the report.
“We seized the packages containing 860 LED lights when we saw shadows on the back of the lights,” one Guangzhou anti- smuggling policeman was quoted as saying by China Central Television ( CCTV) on Friday.
“There were in total 80 bags of meth, each weighing 500 grams. We tracked down the three suspects by looking at the shipping information and raided the place where they packaged the drugs in Sanyuanli,” the policeman added.
Sanyuanli is a Guangzhou neighborhood known for its wholesale markets.
Guangzhou customs also announced Monday that they have busted eight suspects and seized 18 kilograms of methamphetamine as part of a joint operation with their Malaysian counterparts, Chinanews. com reported.
Chinese customs have worked with other nations to jointly bust 13 cases since January 2016, resulting in the seizure of 3.1 tons of narcotics , according to the CCTV report.
