Man charged with raping, murdering 11 female victims since 1988

-

A Gansu Province man has been charged with 11 murders by a local procuratorate, the prosecutor announced on its official Weibo account Monday.

Gao Chengyong, a native of Yuzhong, Northwest China’s Gansu, faces criminal charges including multiple counts of murder, rape, robbery and defiling corpses, according to the official post.

Police in Baiyin, Gansu, arrested Gao at a store in the Baiyin Industrial School in August 2016 after hunting the killer behind the murders for 28 years.

Gao confessed under interrogation to raping and killing 11 victims in the 14 years from 1988, with 10 of the murders occurring in Baiyin and one in Baotou, North China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

All of his victims were women, with the youngest being just 8 years old.

In all the killings, Gao targeted women walking on the street during the day, followed them home and raped them before or after killing them, according to The Beijing News.

Police revealed that Gao removed parts of his victims’ bodies, including their reproductive organs, news site gansudaily. com reported.

In March 2015, provincial police resumed their investigation into the murders armed with stronger investigative methods, and analysis of fingerprints and DNA evidence led to the final iden- tification, gansudaily. com said.

The suspect was officially charged by the Baiyin People’s Procuratorate two months after the arrest.

It has not yet been announced when Gao will stand trial.
