Beijing forum explores the integration of high technology and culture
A forum discussing the combination of culture and science was held at the Palace Museum in Beijing on Tuesday.
The forum covered three sections: New Methods, which examined the role digitalization can play at museums; New Routes, which looked at how traditional culture has integrated high technology; and New Fusion, which focused on future innovation.
At the opening ceremony, Gu Yucai, the deputy director of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, stressed the remarkable progress China has made in the area of cultural preservation, including a 2016 project that used Internet technology to preserve Chinese culture.
“I believe in the power of culture and science. We will keep exploring their glamor,” Gu told the China News Service.
Shan Jixiang, the director of the Palace Museum, discussed ways that combining high technology with culture can benefit museums as well as people’s daily lives.
Doctor Ou Minxing, director of the UNESCO Beijing Office, highlighted the important progress made by UNESCO when it comes to using new information technologies to conserve cultural relics around the world.
Alongside the forum, a free exhibition titled Traditional Culture and Future Imagination was also opened to the public at the museum on Tuesday. It will come to an end on December 8.
