'NAKED' IN BEIJING

-

Free from heavy Scuba tanks or the need to wear swim clothes, visitors are able to enter an underwater world at the Guardian Art Center in Beijing thanks to the efforts of Japanese artist Ryotaro Muramastu. The artist’s underwater exhibition Aquarium by NAKED kicked off at the art center on Thursday. Visitors are able to enjoy recreated scenes from the deep sea and seabed in sections titled Ocean Dive, Oasis, Jelly Wall, Sardine

Run and Ocean Tunnel. Using the latest 3D projection technology, the artist has programmed various interactive displays to change shape and color when visitors touch or interact with the various marine creatures that are projected on the walls.

“This is the first time that Aquarium by NAKED has toured to a foreign country, which is also a big challenge for us. I think almost no one had heard about us before the exhibition, so we were worried about how local visitors would view our work and what they will think about it,” the artist said at the opening of the exhibition on Thursday.

The artist’s Chinese partners, Tianchen Times, said they were confident that high quality overseas art IP programs such as Aquarium by NAKED will be able to bring in a large number of visitors.

“We introduced this exhibition not only to take advantage of NAKED’s technology, but also in the hopes of giving more people access to international art projects without the need to travel overseas,” said Xie Yichen, president of Tianchen Times.

According to the artist, the exhibition is aimed at both adults and children alike.

The exhibition is scheduled to end on September 7.
