Sicily buying BYD buses

The Italian town of Messina in Sicily has placed an order for 13 electric midi-buses with Chinese electric automaker BYD, industry news site electrive.com reported on Wednesday.

It’s the first time electric buses have been sold by bidding in southern Italy and BYD will complete delivery of the vehicles by the end of 2018, said media reports.

The BYD buses have a length of 8.7 meters and can carry 53 passengers.

The orders follows a similar contract BYD won in early August with the Italian city of Padua, which ordered six BYD electric buses that have a length of 12 meters, media reports said.
