A video of a young man from a village in North China riding his motorcycle with a single-wheel that is actually a hoop around the entire bike has become a hit on social media, with netizens offering advice and good humor critiques of his invention.

The man, surnamed Yuan, from Qian’an, Hebei Province said that he wanted to copy the “Monocycle” from one of his favorit movies Men in Black 3, which features secret agents chasing odd alien creatures from outerspace who violate their rights on Earth.

Yuan is a lathe worker with more than 10 years of experience. He made every fitting for the bike by hand, and bought the engine from a motorcycle market.

Early prototypes of the “sci-fi racing bike” had many defects, was far from easy to ride, and was more than a little dangerous.

In the video, Yuan is seen awkwardly riding his giant-wheeled “monocycle” that requires him to uses his feet to stop, indicating the brakes are still a work in progress.

The man’s invention got a lot of attention online with comments like: “Two pairs of shoes per kilometer,” wrote a netizen suggesting the inventor needs a less costly way of stopping his monocycle.

“It’s not as cool as the one in Men in Black 3,” another internet user wrote, perhaps forgetting the movie version of the bike was only a prop.

Yuan has since improved the bike with suggestions from netizens, and once he gets the bike in motion he can scoot around his village.

Yuan plans to next build a cowling around the bike to protect him from fails.

“Although it is not perfect, he shows how creative and imaginative he is,” commented by a netizen.

The video reminds viewers that the bike is not authorized to be ridden on public roads.
