‘ Doomsday clown’ Pompeo lies about Xinjiang

▶ Set tone for Biden admin to pursue ‘ genocide’ line against China: expert

“A joke of the century,” “a doomsday clown,” “Mr. Liar,” and “Secretary of Crimes” … all these words have been given to the “worst- ever Secretary of State” Mike Pompeo by Chinese and overseas officials, scholars and netizens, and on his last day, Pompeo made the final crazy move by groundlessly accusing China and the Communist Party of China of carrying out “genocide” in its Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

Analysts said that Pompeo’s final attack is a farce for him to play as a “tough guy” against China until the last minute, and once again proves to the world how the US senior politician earned his notorious reputation by spreading disinformation and defaming other countries in the past few years.

Pompeo on Tuesday tweeted that he has “determined” China is “committing genocide and crimes against humanity” in Xinjiang against Uygurs and other ethnic groups.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying on Wednesday said Pompeo has made himself a doomsday clown and a joke of the century. The lies and political viruses Pompeo spread over the past years are doomed to be swept into the dustbin of history, and he will also face the trial of history, Hua said.

Dubbed as the “worst US Secretary of State in history” and “Mr. Liar,” Pompeo has earned the notorious reputation by spreading disinformation and destroying diplomatic ties.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif tweeted on January 13, “Mr. ‘ we lie, cheat, steal’ is pathetically ending his disastrous career with more warmongering lies.”

Aside from playing the farce to be tough against China to the last minute, Pompeo also wanted to set the tone for his successor in carrying on the policies of using Xinjiang topics to contain China, experts said.

Echoing Pompeo’s tweet on Tuesday, the US State Department released Pompeo’s “determination” on “atrocities in Xinjiang,” in which he accused

China of conducting “forced sterilizations and abortions” on Uyghur women, “coerced them to marry non- Uygurs, and separated Uygur children from their families.” And he added that he believes the “genocide” in ongoing.

“By accusing the Chinese government and the CPC of ‘ genocide,’ Pompeo is trying to label China as a Nazi country, which is not only crazy but also severely violates China’s domestic affairs and defames the country and the CPC,” said Zhu Ying, deputy director of the National Human Rights Education and Training Base of Southwest University of Political Science and Law.

Jia Chunyang, an expert at the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, told the Global Times on Wednesday that the Biden administration’s attitude can been seen from his campaign statements which already used the word “genocide” for China’s policies in Xinjiang.

The Biden administration may even “chuckle to themselves” because they do not need to make the announcement showing a tough stance against China, Jia said.

Experts warned that given that China would not compromise on issues of its core interests, including the Xinjiang region, the Biden administration should also be aware that the continuous use of Xinjiang topics to pressure China would do no good for bilateral ties.
