Sightseers on light rail in SW China left shaken after drone collision

- Chongqing Morning Post

A light rail train in Southwest China’s Chongqing often used by sightseeing passengers was struck by a lowflying drone that is believed to have been shooting the nearby scenic view, Chongqing Morning Post reported on Monday.

The rail, which runs through a mountain filled with vast trees, is known as “the railway that heads to Spring” on Chinese social media. The breathtaking sight of the colorful flowers against the backdrop of the city’s skyscrapers draws many drone lovers to shoot the view.

The crash occurred on Monday. A video showed an approaching drone hitting the roof of the train with a loud bang.

After the collision, the driver immediately slowed down and announced a “temporary stop” due to an emergency incident.

No injuries were reported although the crash clearly frightened some of the passengers who witnessed the whole thing. The train resumed operation after stopping for about one minute.

Local railway authorities said they have reported the case, and urge citizens not to fly unmanned aerial vehicles near the railway to take pictures of trains.
