Disneyland Resort reopens in Shanghai

Shanghai Disneyland will resume operations from Thursday, Shanghai Disney Resort said on its WeChat account on Tuesday, following a three- month long shutdown due to a recent COVID- 19 resurgence.

According to a notice released by the company, tickets for Shanghai Disneyland will be go back on sale from 7 am on Wednesday.

A good number of netizens expressed delight on the resort’s official account, saying that they are eager to visit the resort.

During the initial period of reopening, most of the popular attraction­s, rides, entertainm­ent shows, stores and restaurant­s in Shanghai Disneyland will resume operations with capacity restrictio­ns, the resort said.

All guests are required to present a green Shanghai Health QR Code and a negative nucleic acid test taken within 72 hours, scan the venue code and undergo temperatur­e screening upon entering the Shanghai Disney Resort.

Disneytown and Shanghai Disneyland Hotel resumed operations on June 16. Experts noted that the reopening of the entire Shanghai Disney Resort is a landmark in the post- epidemic restart of the city’s tourism industry, signaling confidence for tourism companies and tourists alike.

After the resort released the notice, searches for Shanghai Disney on major online travel platforms, including Ctrip and Tongcheng Travel, soared 655 percent, while nearby hotels also saw a spike in demand, with instant searches rising 260 percent, and booking volumes increasing by 1.5 times compared to Monday, Chinese media outlet Shanghai Observer reported.

Data from travel platform qunar. com showed that the reopening of Shanghai Disney has also driven up public interest in other scenic spots in the city, news outlet The Paper reported. On Tuesday, searches of tickets for Shanghai scenic spots more than doubled compared with Monday, and the number of tickets issued for scenic spots in the city increased by 80 percent.
