"We gravitated toward something classic that felt homey." They turned to their good friend Miguel Rosales, the principal of Caramel Inc, a creative consultancy focused on art advisory; he had also been advising the husband from his early days of art acquisition.

Miguel’s team took on the house’s interior styling, working with renowned architect Pandy Lichauco. The 5,400sqft, two-storey structure turned out to be a haven for "what makes me happy now," says the husband, and a respite from the couple’s hectic working lives.

"I tend to build rooms around works of art, as my clients are usually serious collectors who don’t treat the artworks as mere decoration," says Miguel. "Understanding the art that will go into an area helps us formulate the way other pieces in that space will be able to relate."

His client’s interest in Philippine art began with the masters, then changed slowly with exposure to younger artists. "I like contemporary art because it’s still evolving. You’re still able to talk to the artists and see their current work," he says. The client also began appreciating international works, travelling for shows and exploring more playful pieces.
