The panels can be rotated to create a larger living space; a Flos 2097 chandelier by Gino Sarfatti hangs above the stairs. Like a bridge in the air, the landing leading to the bedroom stretches above the living area

For the room fittings, the architect worked in collaboration with interior designer Claude de Boysson, who runs Bordeaux-based Italian design showroom Nuovo. As a painter and a colourist, Claude has a strong affinity for colour. On this project, she used a limited palette of hues throughout the house. Here, chocolate brown and cream are the prevailing tones, with sparing hints of blue (as seen in the living room); these shades also appear on the bespoke mantle. Oak flooring, high doors made of brown metal panels and furniture from top Italian brands match the overall look and feel. The combination makes for flawless interiors – the resulting space is a pinnacle of sophistication while still remaining homely and lived-in.
