NOOKS AND NICHES

A feature wall in teal leads to a compact study tucked behind the ensuite bedroom – it's a sunbathed nook that serves as a comfortable workspace for the owner

"I like the bathroom best because I’ve never done anything like it before – the same, continuous tile for the backsplash and the countertop is something I’ve wanted to do for a really long time," says YC.

Pushing the envelope is a driving factor for hoo’s creative director, whose upcoming projects have diverted away from the Nordic aesthetic to run the gamut of French, rustic American and art deco styles. "As designers, we don’t want to keep repeating," explains YC. "We do all styles, but we want our signature taste to be consistently felt. I definitely don’t want every project in our portfolio to look exactly the same." Given the fresh look of this cheerful New Territories flat, which breaks away from the severe rules in space-saving design, the firm has surely done a convincing job at standing out as well as maximising style. //
