THE CORTLANG

An ode to American craftsmanship美式工藝頌歌 LOCATION: West Chelsea, New York Condominium

-

Designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects and Olson Kundig, The Cortland is the latest in New York’s luxury residential landscape that melds waterfront living with historic-inspired charm.

Located on 555 West 22nd Street across from the Hudson River Park, The Cortland, developed by Related Companies, comprises two condominiums that offer an assortment of studios to five-bedroom residences and expansive penthouses facing the Hudson River. Some 144 units will hit the market this fall.

Taking cues from the neighbourhood’s industrial heritage, the building boasts a textured façade made of limestone, brick and metal detailing that lend the project a distinctly historical touch.

The interiors, done by Olson Kundig, feature high ceilings, openplan living and dining areas and numerous multifunctional spaces designed with craft and function in mind. In the communal spaces, a sophisticated mix of stone, metal and wood lend the property a refined west coast ease.

Robert A.M. Stern Architects is an internationally renowned architecture practice known for modern classicism. The New York-based firm is also the creative force behind the luxury residential development St. George’s Mansion on Kadoorie Avenue in Hong Kong.

The Seattle-based interior design discipline Olson Kundig, meanwhile, is celebrated for integrating nature and architecture. Its signature design aesthetics of modern and innovative minimalism are found at ultra-luxury villas around the world.
