Tomorrow is all about today

- JENNIFER CHAN Managing Editor

In modern society, we’re all taught to be eyes-forward, to be innovative, to be future-oriented. Spurred on by technological growth, everyone seems to be rushing into the future, with the promises of the metaverse and artificial intelligence taking over the headlines and social media.

But what about the here and the now?

Before leaping into the future, let’s take an honest look at the present, because true innovations are those that are able to fit in with existing habits, and in response to pressing needs.

This issue is a celebration of such a notion. We honour superlative creations that challenge the status quo, timeless household products that redefine home aesthetics, and forward thinkers who look at designs from fresh perspectives.

Our cover story on page 28 is dedicated to a list of future-shaping architectural wonders that takes into account the environment, and local communities. On page 56, we bring together three premium lifestyle brands, paired with celebrated home-grown designers Ivan Ho from C&I Interior Design, Johnny Shum, from Make It Works, and Ken Leung, from Hei Design, to explore the secrets to durable designs for our homes.

On page 112, we feature Netherlands-based creative Pao Hui Kao, who dreams up an other-worldly collection of homewares made of tracing paper, water, and the right dose of creativity and imagination, that bring added value not only to our lives, but also the environment.

In West Bengal, India, architect and interior designer Pooja Bihani gives a 2,100 square foot split-level house a unique configuration, transforming it into a curvaceous organic splendour; and in Minsk, Belarusian interior designer Anna Lazar puts a modern and enchanting spin on an apartment housed in a historical building, turning it into a geometric marvel that boasts interesting form and colours.

Enjoy the issue.

Ivan Ho、Make It Works創辦人Johnny Shum和Hei Design設計師Ken Leung,共同探索恆久耐用的
