Performing arts students bring the circus to town
The Lyric Theatre will be transformed into a “big top” for the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Ball, which has designated “circus” as its theme this year. More than 400 guests will enjoy an evening of fine dining and show-stopping performances by students from the academy’s dance and drama schools, including arrangements of Send in the Clowns, Vesti La Giubba, Entrance of the Gladiators and, of course, The Greatest Showman. Later, Jasmine Yen, daughter of Donnie Yen, and mainland actress and singer Tan Jing will take to the stage for the celebrity performances. The event, which takes place on December 8, is organised by gala chairwoman Winnie Chiu (pictured), co-chairwoman May Lui and the co-presidents of the Society of the Academy for Performing Arts, Sophia Kao-lo and Alison Luscher. Funds raised will go to support the academy’s scholarship programmes for students across its six schools. hkapa.edu
