My favourite quote on luck is by Oprah Winfrey: “Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity.” It’s all about being at the right place at the right time. Personally, September 11, 2001, was actually a lucky day for my family—both my sister and I worked near the World Trade Centre and, coincidentally, we happened to be away on business trips; my mother was scheduled to be on United Flight 93, which went down in Pennsylvania, but missed her flight that morning. Now I feel very lucky in general to have two healthy, kind, well-behaved, smart, sporty daughters who I’m very close to. However, I do tell my children that there are no guarantees in life. Hard work and study lead you to success, but luck grants the opportunity to be successful.
