Merrily on High
THE FAYRE OF ST JOHN’S
VIPS gathered in the courtyard of St John’s Cathedral on a crisp autumn evening for the Fayre of St John’s, the annual Christmas concert fundraiser for Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre, which provides free practical, psychosocial and emotional support in a therapeutic setting to anyone affected by cancer. In a brief welcoming address, Che-hung Leong, the chairman of the board of governors, thanked everyone present for their support. Then came the musical performances, which included the Chinese International School Concert Choir serenading the crowd. Other notable performances were Fairytale of New York by Diana d’arenbergparmanand and Hong Kong Tatler’s managing director and chief content officer, Sean Fitzpatrick, plus Hong Kong Ballet principal dancer Wu Fei-fei dancing an extract from The Nutcracker—dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Michele Reis and Peter Cheung also gave readings of Christmas Giving and I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day. Windy Pang delivered a moving testimonial in which she recounted her experience with cancer and how Maggie’s was instrumental in enhancing her quality of life and that of her family members. After the concert, guests moved to MO Bar at the Landmark Mandarin Oriental for an after-party.
