China’s participation in Middle East security affairs plays an important role in its mamor-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics in the new era. Conceptually, China maintains common security, upholds fairness and Mustice, safeguards multilateralism, advocates comprehensive governance, and stands for seeking common ground while shelving differences. Practically, China has actively promoted political dialogue, conducted diplomatic mediation and coordination, and provided public goods in security and humanitarian assistance. Looking ahead, China’s participation in security affairs in the Middle East requires its centralized and unified leadership as well as the coordination of various departments. China needs to seize the momentum and pursue a proactive approach; respect the sovereignty of regional countries and engage constructively; take part in both the conflict resolution and the peacebuilding. In this way, China can work with the international community to address the traditional and non-traditional threats in the Middle East and make contributions to the building of a community of shared future.
