Honda HA-420 Hondajet
The first aircraft developed by Honda Aircraft Company, the Honda HA-420 Hondajet has enjoyed enduring popularity since its debut in the light business jet market in 2005. It won the 2014 International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences award, along with an Aviation Industry Leader of the Year award. In 2014, the aircraft was awarded a ‘Best of What's New’ title by Popular Science magazine.
The model’s popularity helped Honda Aircraft Co. to secure a significant order at the recent Singapore Airshow. The company sold 16 Hondajets to French air taxi provider Wijet, which serves 1,200 airports in Europe and North Africa. The new acquisitions are set to replace Paris-based Wijet’s current fleet of 15 Cessnas in the coming 18 months. Honda Aircraft President and CEO Michimasa Fujino said that the Wijet order is the largest Hondajet order to date from a single operator, and represents a “huge step” for the company. When the deal was announced at the Singapore Airshow on 8 February, Wijet chief executive Patrick Hersent remarked, “There is no comparison to the Hondajet, in its category.” He believes that the aircraft, which received Ezuropean validation in 2016, will give Wijet customers “the best-of-the-best in terms of products and experience while providing our partners with a safe and superior product at an affordable rate”.
Much of the Hondajet’s appeal lies in its unconventional structure. It is a low-wing monoplane with a mainly composite fuselage and an aluminum wing. It is powered by two GE Honda Aero Engines HF120 turbofans mounted on pylons above the wing, and has a retractable tricycle landing gear with both main and nose landing gear single-wheeled. The jet’s overwing engine mount serves to maximize cabin space, and achieves lower wave drag at a high Mach number. The nose and wing are designed for laminar flow, while the main fuselage has a constant profile, facilitating an eventual stretch. The combination of the engine placement, fuselage, and wing was achieved using computer simulations and wind tunnels. Its lightweight materials, aerodynamics, and efficient engines can give the Hondajet up to 20% better fuel efficiency than similar aircraft. Cruising at 43,000 feet, the jet is said to consume just 339 litres (89.5 gallons) of fuel per hour.
Honda also announced at the Singapore Airshow that it is gradually ramping up production of the Hondajet to meet market demand. Deliveries of the six-seat aircraft rose from 23 units in 2016 to over 43 last year, and a “steady” increase in output is anticipated in 2018.
它曾荣获2014年“国际航空科学理事会奖”（ International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences）和航空业年度领导者大奖（ Aviation Industry Leader of the Year）。
