Cessna’s newest model – the 408 Skycourier – was launched on 28 November 2017 by Textron Aviation, with an introduction slated for 2020. Wind tunnel tests are set to begin in February 2018 before the first flight in 2019. The twin-turboprop, high-wing, utility aircraft has already been snapped up by Fedex Express, with an order of 50 cargo aircraft and options for 50 more, taking a monthly delivery over four years from 2020. The 408's design has been developed in alignment with Fedex Express requirements, like the earlier Cessna 208 Caravan.

The Skycourier is a high-wing, twin-turboprop, large-utility aircraft. It will be available in two variants – either a 19-passenger model with large cabin windows and separate crew and passenger doors, or a cargo alternative sized for three LD3S and 6,000 pounds of payload, featuring a large cargo door and a flat floor cabin. It will have the capacity to cruise at up to 200 kn (370 km/h) over up to 900 nmi (1,700 km), and single-point refueling will speed turnarounds. The airframe will be constructed from traditional aluminum materials, and will feature Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-65 engines, 4-bladed Mccauley propellers, a fixed landing gear, and Garmin G1000 avionics. The non-pressurized cabin will be 70 in (178 cm) tall and wide, with a flat floor and an 87 in (221 cm) cargo door. The clean-sheet design looks set to offer better cabin flexibility and payload capability, superior performance, and lower operating costs than its competitors.

A sturdy yet elegant model, the 408 Skycourier measures 48 ft 9 in (14.86 m) in length and 15 ft 2 in (4.62 m) in height, with a wingspan of 54 ft 3 in (16.54 m). Depending on its function, it has a maximum capacity of 19 passengers with a commuter payload of 5,000 lb (2,268 kg) or 3×LD3S with a cargo payload of 6,000 lb (2,722 kg). It will have a maximum cruise speed of 230 mph, a maximum range of 460 mi, and a ferry range of 1,036 mi. Its service ceiling will be 25,000 ft (7,600 m), with a takeoff distance of 3,300 ft (1,006 m).
