Official-title Show-off

Officials from a family in Putian, Fujian Province, were put under disciplinary inspection after one woman from the family listed all the official titles the family members had in a message to her son's teacher in a bid to get the son preferential treatment in class.

Her conversation with the teacher on Wechat was later exposed online and disgusted many netizens who criticized the woman for attempting to overawe the teacher with power. It proves, they said, that there are still many people in or close to officialdom who believe in power and hope to exploit it for their own personal gain.

College Airs and Graces

The whiff of bureaucracy on campuses has caused great public concern after a chat record from the student union of a college in Chengdu, Sichuan Province leaked online, showing someone in the group being scolded for directly asking the chairman of the student union about a meeting time. “How dare you directly @Chairman Yang? I don't wanna see this next time,” and “Mind your manner of speaking and act according to your identity,” was the response from the moderator of the chat group. The remarks caused netizens to discuss why even a campus had been so polluted by bureaucratic airs.
