White Paper on Human Rights Progress Released

-

China's State Council published a white paper on China's achievement of building allround moderate prosperity on August 12, which it said represents China's efforts in protecting human rights.

Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the Chinese people “completed the historic transformation from poverty to secure access to food and clothing, to a decent life, and finally to moderate prosperity,” read the white paper titled “Moderate Prosperity in All Respects: Another Milestone Achieved in China's Human Rights,” the Xinhua News Agency reported.

The paper highlighted that China has eliminated absolute poverty, with healthcare and medical services for impoverished people improving.

China's average life expectancy, the paper noted, has risen from 67.8 years in 1981 to 77.3 years in 2019 and China is the only country that has directly lifted from the low humandevelopment group to the high human development group, according to the UN Human Development Index measure based on life expectancy, education level and standard of living.

The paper emphasizes that China has guaranteed the people's democratic rights by improving the National People's Congress (NPC) institution and the system of multi-party cooperation and political consultations under the leadership of the CPC.

“All-round moderate prosperity means all the people enjoy human rights,” said the white paper.
