The Ovale Pantographe
takes direct inspiration from one of Michel Parmigiani’s restoration projects, a pocket watch from 1780, which featured telescopic hands. Transferring this feature to a wristwatch proved considerably more difficult than you would expect; the different positions of the watch, as worn on the wrist throughout the day, potential shocks, and other environmental variables can affect the hands themselves. These hands subsequently required 30 components before they could be made possible, and they use an aluminum alloy with a magnesium base, sourced from the automotive industry, to strike the required functional equilibrium to work reliably. This year’s model gains a guilloché barley grain dial, and is available with a choice of white or rose gold case.
