Abstract The external space design of modern science and technology museums should not only undertake basic social functions and service facilities, but also need to show the understanding of the surrounding environment and the expanding of the learning space. Based on the theory of situated learning, we take Hubei Science and Technology Museum as an example, it is proposed that the external space should be combined with the main building. With the help of the penetration of traditional culture into garden art and the intervention of installation art into exhibition design, scientific knowledge is communicated by thematic botanical gardens and interpret movable characters on deconstructionism, to create a organic combination of nature, science and technology, culture and art.
