Seasonal cold air brings only slight pollution
SOME cold air from the north will bring slight pollution to Shanghai today with PM2.5 the major pollutant, according to Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center.
Sunny and cloudy days will replace wet conditions in the latter part of this week, though temperatures will drop tomorrow, the beginning of the Chinese solar term of
or Minor Snow, which marks the start of the cold season.
Shanghai already endured some pollution at the beginning of this week due to poor diffusion, the first since October 8 as the city’s air quality had remained good for the previous 40 days.
The air quality index is forecast to hover between 85 and 105 this afternoon, passing the slight pollution threshold of 100. The situation will ease tomorrow with the AQI falling to between 55 and 75.
According to Yangtze River Delta region air quality forecast center, slight pollution is expected in middle and northern parts of the region with moderate pollution (AQI between 101 and 150) expected in some areas.
Today there will be light showers with temperatures between 13 and 16 degrees Celsius. The temperature will drop to 9-14 degrees tomorrow though the rain will stop.
Friday should be sunny with temperatures falling to 8-16 degrees. The weekend will see a high of 18 degrees under cloudy skies.
