A movie that featured torpedo boats inspired Tong Jianliang as a child. Today, he’s in great demand for his exquisitely crafted model ships and his services sought after by many museums and collectors.

Residents line up to try out a new elevator which opened for a trial operation at Building 25 in the Jiazhong Huayuan neighborhood in Jiading Town early this month.

The neighborhood was established in 2000 and has more than 40 percent of residents above the age of 60, so climbing the stairs was difficult for those living on the upper floors. With the elevator, these residents now have an easier way to go up and down. Another two elevators in Jiazhong Huayuan will be completed at the end of this month. To promote the installation of elevators in old residential buildings, Jiading Town has organized a group to make a manual for elevator installation in multi-story residential buildings.
