A festival for couples? No! A day for girls!
The Double Seventh Festival falls on the seventh day of the seventh month on the lunar calendar. In ancient times, the festival featured needlework skills, so the main participants were young girls. As such, the day was dubbed the Girls’ Festival. It wasn’t until the 3rd-6th centuries that the Chinese legend of the “Cowhand and the Girl Weaver” was woven into the festival, which is now also known as Chinese Valentine’s Day.
