Missiles fired as PLA conducts Taiwan drills
THE Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army conducted long-range live-fire shooting training in the Taiwan Straits yesterday and carried out precision strikes on specific areas in the eastern part of the Straits.
All missiles hit the targets off the eastern coast of Taiwan island accurately.
The PLA Eastern Theater Command said that expected results have been achieved.
Tan Kefei, a spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense said yesterday that the Chinese military has kept its word. The joint military exercises and training activities around the Taiwan island are a serious deterrent against collusion between the
United States and Taiwan.
US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan betrays the US promise on opposing “Taiwan Independence” and seriously breaks the ChinaUS relation, he added.
China warns the US and Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party that the US-Taiwan collusion will only bring disaster to the Taiwan region and endanger Taiwan people, Tan said. The complete reunification of China is an unstoppable historical trend and China will defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, leaving no place for any “Taiwan Independence” actions or external interference.
Foreign Minister Wang Yi yesterday called on the
international community to oppose any moves challenging the one-China principle, and unite to safeguard peace and stability in the region.
He made the remarks while attending the China-ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Wang said it is the US which stirs up trouble, provokes crisis and continues to
escalate tensions. If such bad precedents are not corrected, how can international laws be safeguarded?
He refuted the Group of Seven’s groundless charges against China’s reasonable and legitimate initiatives to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Meanwhile, Ma Xiaoguang, spokesperson for the Taiwan
Affairs Office of the State Council, said the punishments targeting die-hard “Taiwan independence” elements and external interference are justified, legitimate and reasonable. Any sovereign state will take such measures to safeguard its sovereignty, security and development interests.
