SilkRoad - - EDITOR’S LETTER 編者的話 - Mark Tjhung, Editor 編輯

mine has a real love affair with Japan. She’s been to Tokyo a dozen times, Kyoto a few times less, as well as the rugged snowy landscapes of Hokkaido and throughout Kyushu. But when I told her about Cathay Dragon’s new seasonal route to Tokushima, her response surprised me. ‘Oh, Shikoku? I’ve never been there.’

Perhaps it’s telling. The smallest of Japan’s main islands is also its least explored, and that’s certainly not a bad thing. In our cover story, Vanessa Ko discovers Shikoku in all its serene, natural and cultural beauty, and you can read all about it on p34.

To round out the year, we’re also presenting the winners of the Marco Polo Club Members’ Choice Awards, the annual showcase of the finest in Asian travel, as voted by members of Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon’s loyalty programme (p42).

And there’s more: discover the real Ubud (p50), modernising Fuzhou (p56) and the cool side of Frankfurt (p62) , and if you’re still looking for Christmas travel plans, we’ll show you the best places to celebrate across the region (p18).

Happy New Year and safe travels to you all – we’ll see you in 2019.
