A vegan chef’s top spots for plant-based dishes

Lebanese-Canadian Amy Elkhoury is a plant-based chef who created a vegan range of dairy-free nut-based cheese called Nuteese.

I am vegan for ethical, health and environmen­t reasons. I love quality food and love supporting plant-based chefs and establishm­ents that cater to plant-based eaters.

When I need to pick up something quick I drop by Treehouse (The Steps – H code, 45 Pottinger I love their sourdough flatbreads and polenta fries.

I enjoy the meze at Sumac (8 Glenealy, Central, tel: 2147 9191). I also like visiting Ma … And The Seeds Of Life (1/F H18 Conet, 23 Graham Street, Central, tel: 6469 4533) a plant-based restaurant by Tina Barrat, a raw vegan chef.

If I had guests, I would bring them to Mott 32 (Basement, Standard Chartered Bank Building, 44A Des Voeux Road Central, Central, tel: 2885 8688) because it’s Cantonese, the food is good, the decor is beautiful and they have delicious vegan options.

For special occasions, I like Amber (7/F, The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, 15 Queen’s Road Central, Central, tel: 2132 0066)

and Arcane (3/F, 18 On Lan Street, Central, tel: 2728 0178). Both restaurant­s make delicious plantbased tasting menus.

A friend invited me to OneThirtyO­ne (131 Tseng Tau Village, Shap Sze Heung, Sai Kung, tel: 2791 2684) for my birthday. The chef created a delicious vegan menu. It was a lovely experience.

Once we can travel again, I would go back to Lebanon or Montreal to see friends and family. In Montreal, I love going to Ristorante Lucca (12 Rue Dante, Montreal, Quebec H2S 1J5, Canada, tel: +1 514 278 6502) in little Italy. It’s our family restaurant.

In Lebanon, there are two places I would definitely visit. The first is Liza (Metropolit­an Club, Doumani Street, Achrafieh, Beirut, tel: +961 1 208 108) in Achrafieh, where I was born. They have a variety of meze – baba ghanoush, hummus and tabbouleh.

I also love La Crêperie (Jounieh Road, Jounieh, tel: +961 71 202 022) in Kaslik. It is known as the Monte Carlo of the East. They have a French section and a Lebanese section with alfresco dining in a beautiful garden.
