%s Hong Kong is facing an unprecedented public health crisis caused by the e\ponential surge of Covid-19 inflections, China 4etrochemical Corp (Sinopec) has taken another step to support Hong Kong people to survive the difficult time. The staunch support is in congruence with the Chinese enterprise´s emphasis on corporate social responsibility, especially at the time the city is battling the pandemic.

On February 28, the oil and gas supplier donated HK 6 million worth of proprietary Chinese medicine to the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Union (HKFTU), which will distribute the medicine free of charge to the working class who have contracted the highly transmissible Omicron variant but were not able to be admitted into hospitals for treatment due to the shortage of beds. These include frontline workers during the pandemic such as drivers of buses, taxi, mass transit railway and cross-border trucks, as well as grassroot communities such as those living in subdivided flats and public housing estates. The proprietary Chinese medicine donated by Sinopec includes 50,000 boxes of .inhua 5inggan Keli and 80,000 boxes of 0ianhua 5ingwen .iaonang. Recommended in China’s “(iagnosis and Treatment Some of the first batch of Jinhua Qinggan Keli proprietary Chinese medicine donated by Sinopec.

Protocol for 2ovel Coronavirus Pneumonia (Trail:ersion 4 to 8)”, these two products are widely applied in the country’s anti-epidemic work. The first batch of 10,000 boxes of .inhua 5inggan Keli have been delivered to HKFTU, while the remaining 120,000 boxes are expected to arrive Hong Kong in the first week of March. The donation ceremony was attended by .iang >henying, Chief Representative of Sinopec Hong Kong Representative Office, and the Hon Kingsley Wong Kwok, Chairman of the HKFTU who is also Member of the 2ational Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and Member of the 0egislative Council of Hong Kong. Speaking at the ceremony, .iang said Hong Kong is experiencing a large-scale community outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, with a tsunami-like increase in the

number of new inflections. He said with the record numbers of new cases since Hong Kong started battling the pandemic about two years ago, the city’s medical resources are now under tremendous pressure. “Sinopec is deeply concerned about the rapid escalation of Covid-19 pandemic in Hong Kong, as well as the livelihood of the grassroot communities. &ecause many of those who have been tested positive for the Omicron variant and those who have mild symptoms are not able to receive treatment at hospitals, they need to undergo home quarantine and take care of their own health. They are suffering from the pain symptoms as well as the medicine shortages, thus Neopardising their health and even their life,” he said. .iang said adhering to the spirt of the important directive from President

head office has instructed the Hong Kong office to make every effort to ensure the stable supply of oil and gas products in the city. He said the donation of proprietary Chinese medicine is an evidence of Sinopec’s staunch support to Hong Kong people fighting the pandemic at the frontlines as well as the grassroot communities. “We express our most sincere gratitude and respects to all healthcare and public service workers at the frontlines. They work diligently day after day regardless of the risk of being inflected, and help safeguard the livelihood of 7.5 million people in Hong Kong. Sinopec is standing with all citi^ens of Hong Kong, supporting and helping each other. Together, we work hard to help Hong Kong to overcome the difficulties as quickly as possible.” At the same occasion, Wong thanks Sinopec for its support to Hong Kong’s anti-pandemic fight and its concern about the livelihood of the grassroot communities. “The HK 6 million proprietary Chinese medicine donated by Sinopec are the anti-pandemic resources badly needed by the people of Hong Kong, especially the working class. The donation is timely and very practical,” he said. The donation of proprietary Chinese medicine is another maNor effort made by Sinopec in support of Hong Kong people against the Covid-19 pandemic. In early 2020, as the disease broke out, there was a serious shortage of face masks. In view of the situation, Sinopec promptly donated 5 tonnes of meltdown cloth to enable HKFTU to produce 5 million pieces of facemask to be distributed to Hong Kong people free of charge.
