MAKING EVERY HOME A SPECIAL ONE
As the season edges into the blustery beginnings of winter, our living spaces should be updated accordingly.
Boconcept, winner of REA Group's ‘Best of the Best Awards 2018', is all about bringing a curiosity about the world into the home. They believe that a true home should be a culmination of your own experiences, impressions and expressions, and have brought out two main styles and several colour themes to help create the abode specifically perfect to you.
The main styles they work with are the Scandinavian and the Metropolitan. The Scandinavian style has been highly popular in recent years, and is characterised by simplicity, clean surfaces and honest materials, with an overarching vibe of “less is more”. Inspired by Nordic nature, the dominant materials used are oak, wool and marble, with colours turning darker according to seasonality. Textural pops such as soft velvet and natural linen are accented with hints of brass, copper details and toned mirrors for a warm spark. The Metropolitan is of course inspired by life in the big cities of the world, with loft apartments, city houses and urban restaurants forming the framework—think concrete floors, black metal-framed windows and functional furniture settings. This contemporary firmness is tempered by soft textures and natural elements such as leather, wood and greenery, emphasising the importance of incorporating the outdoors into our city homes.
To offer more variety and inspiration within each style, Boconcept has also created four complementary trend colour themes that work with both the Scandinavian and Metropolitan to suit all styles. These are Mood Blue, Home Grown, Solid Earth and Icon Brown.
Blue has ever been a classic yet contemporary colour, and there's no better time to create a dark monochrome look than in winter. Don't be afraid of using colours; mix multiple blue tones such as dark blue, royal blue, turquoise and petrol. With whites, greys and sand as a base, the dominant blue can then be softened with brass, caramel and golden textiles to also lend warmth. Boconcept's Milano Dining Table fits well into this aesthetic; a Spanish ceramic manufacturer forged ceramic table tops for this purpose, and they are virtually scratch-proof and heat resistant up to 200°c. For a foray into blue furniture, check out the Amsterdam Corner Sofa in navy blue, an elegant L-shaped piece with all of its sides fully upholstered so any module can sit in isolation.
Home Grown celebrates the botanical trend, with a clear reference to nature and usage of multiple shades of green. Warm and cosy is the overall aim, with wooden surfaces in walnut and oak bringing the outdoors inside; perfect for the gradually cooling days. This green-dominated theme can be complemented by accents in brass, Bordeaux and purples for richness and complexity. Fittingly, your Christmas fir would be right at home displayed with this colour scheme.
Red is a big trend this season, and Boconcept uses everything from dark Bordeaux shades to soft pale pinks in the Solid Earth theme. Nudes, light beige and warm browns make for the perfect base to accompany red tones, and accents are also kept warm with hints of copper and brass. We all need some semblance of warmth during the winter, and this theme helps keep in mind the warmer climes to come.
For those who find their tastes not quite so bold, Icon Brown is the perfect balance between warm and cool colours. Basic greys and browns are blended with earthy accents in caramel, yellow and mustard. The golden tones can be kept from appearing too overwhelming by focusing on greys and beiges for balance. The overall tone is still opulent, earthy and warm, and will fit with most interior design styles. The Reno Armchair comes in mustard yellow, a perfect entry point for this trending theme. Its upholstered hard shell with a plush, deep cushion and swivel base makes for a comfortable stylish addition to any home.
