Off the Beaten Path: Kwun Tong
If you're looking to explore somewhere less tourist-y that shows a more authentic side of the 852, then Kwun Tong is the place to go. The centre of salt production dating back to the late 1200s, Kwun Tong was later developed as Hong Kong's first new town in the 1950s, becoming an industrial area home to the working class. As with old urban industrial districts in various cities, the area has now emerged as a haven for artists, musicians and other creatives on entrepreneurial ventures, with attractions secreted behind its landscape of gritty buildings.
