Dominique Lemay It was sorely missed in 2013, having prudently been cancelled as Typhoon Hagupit, which proved to be so devastating, was approaching, so when the Tatler Ball returned to Manila in 2014, it was no surprise that the Rizal Ballroom of the Makati Shangri-la was filled to capacity with the country’s most illustrious personalities. Philippine society’s elite arrived dressed to the nines to enjoy a grand, longawaited celebration, which was declared a great success. Many of the guests said it was the best social event of the year. Michel Lamunière, the vice-president of the Edipresse Group, addressed the gathering on behalf of Edipresse Media Asia. He was accompanied by his wife, Tamara, the group’s managing director for international sales. Philippine Tatler raised more than 6.4 million pesos (HK$1.1 million) for the Virlanie Foundation on the night, surpassing its goal of 5 million pesos. The efforts of society’s most exceptional individuals were also recognised during the evening with the presentation of the annual Philippine Tatler Awards. Entertainment included performances by the Virlanie Children’s Choir, “Divine Diva” Zsa Zsa Padilla and New-york based tap dancer Omar Edwards, whose moves prepared the guests for a night of dancing to the music of The 8-Track Band. Philanthropy and excellence in an ambiance of elegance and conviviality—there is no better way to spend an evening.
