The Next Level

One of the leading British international schools in Hong Kong, Kellett School has offered top-notch education for nearly four decades

-

Founded by a group of parents in 1976 to provide a high-quality British-style education in Hong Kong, Kellett School aims to engender “a love of learning and confidence for life”. It provides challenge and opportunity for every student, and entrusts them with responsibility. Starting life as a small preparatory school, Kellett has recently expanded into a through-train school for children aged four to 18, spread across two campuses. There are two preparatory sections: one in Pok Fu Lam and one in the brand new Kowloon Bay campus, which features a range of first-class facilities, including a six-lane swimming pool, “sky pitch” and state-of-the-art theatre. All preparatory pupils are guaranteed a place in the senior school, which has 600 students.

The school’s curriculum is based upon and goes beyond the National Curriculum for England, providing students with both local and international perspectives. The curriculum offers tight benchmarking, is highly transferable and is recognised throughout the English-speaking world—offering students the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) and International GCSE exams in Years 10 and 11. Students in Years 12 and 13 then complete the prestigious A-level programme, recognised worldwide as a great pathway to university. The A-levels are a rigorous academic study based around a sixth form core programme that includes global citizenship, physical education and sport, leadership opportunities, and careers and university guidance.

“The A-level programme has been designed to support and encourage students to use their initiative and cultivate their own time-management skills,” says Simon Giddings, head of the senior school at Kellett. “It presents an opportunity to develop attractive academic and personal profiles in preparation for the next stage of their education.”

The A-levels are seen as the recommended route for students who wish to specialise in a particular area at university, as they allow the student to choose appropriate combinations of subjects and examine them in more detail. While the International Baccalaureate covers a broad spectrum of subjects for those that may not have decided on their future profession, the A-level programme is specifically designed to place more emphasis on individual subject knowledge. The programme is ideal for students who have a clear understanding of the path they wish to follow.

Kellett also offers a rich and varied programme of extracurricular activities that contribute to each student’s personal development. These include local and overseas educational visits, as well as a rich repertoire of performing arts and sporting opportunities.

Kellett’s high academic achievement is realised within a broad curriculum that embraces 21st-century learning, creativity, sport and the arts. The institution has rightly earned its reputation as one of Hong Kong’s leading international schools.
