W Hong Kong launches a fabulous Fit programme that features the innovative Technogym Wellness Active Ball
One of the best ways to stick to an effective fitness programme is to choose one that is enjoyable and feels less like a chore. To lure people out of their lounge and into their lycra, W Hong Kong launched Fit— a membership-based fitness programme that incorporates the Technogym Wellness Active Ball, a combination of technology and fit ball.
“Innovation has long been a core value at W Hong Kong”, says Jane Wang, director of the hotel’s Bliss Spa. “With this opportunity to marry high tech and fitness, we have transformed the wellness experience in an exciting way that celebrates the body and provides 24/7 access to an interactive workout.”
To celebrate the programme’s launch, individuals who purchase the full Fit membership before the end of December 2015 can each take home a Wellness Ball valued at HK$4,000 and also enjoy five Technoball personal training sessions as welcome gifts.
The Wellness Ball is luxury workout equipment that exercises your back and core muscles for better posture and stability. A special feature of the ball is its technological component: its handle incorporates a QR code, which can be scanned to access a database of specially designed training programmes. It works after users have answered a series of questions about their health status and have connected with the My Wellness App, gaining access to a list of workouts and video tutorials. Users can also sync the app up with their Outlook schedule to organise workout times and set up reminders to help reach goals.
The lower part of the ball is made of high-density material for greater stability and to prevent it from rolling around, while a specially developed material is used on the underside to prevent slipping. In addition the cover is made of multilayered fabric with a support lining and breathable, anti-bacterial honeycomb material that’s typically used in running shoes. It can be machine washed at 30 degrees to guarantee high levels of hygiene.
However, high-tech and amazing as it is, fitness equipment is only as good as its user. That’s why it is essential to receive training by a qualified industry expert. Fortunately, W Hong Kong has retained the services of professional personal trainer Rabi Tamasing, who has a string of qualifications including Advanced Personal Training Certification, Sports Science
and Fitness Foundation Certification, Muay Thai Instructor Certification and extensive experience in boxing and karate.
Tamasing oversees the Fit membership programme. “Exercising is the key to good health. But many people nowadays do not know how to exercise correctly, causing ineffective results and body injuries. So we have a team on hand to help guests exercise safely and effectively,” says Tamasing.
In addition to the Wellness Ball, the Fit membership programme offers comprehensive and customised training sessions that include body toning, TRX, Bosu, kick-boxing, golf-specific training, muscle building, body contouring plus toning, weight management and yoga.
Members also have free access to the 130 sqm Fit fitness centre as well as the hotel’s outdoor pool—said to be the highest of its kind in Hong Kong. Add to the mix a soundtrack designed to inspire feelings of wellbeing, and getting fit and fabulous at W Hong Kong feels less like a chore and more like a fun way to spend an afternoon.
