Boy Oh Boy

As gender lines blur in the jewellery world, brands are responding with a more diverse selection of men’s pieces, writes Charlene Co

he jury’s still out on how much jewellery men should wear. There remain the conservatives who insist that men should be seen with only three accessories: a watch, cufflinks and a wedding band— tops! But the tide is turning as men become more comfortable with accessorising. As a result, jewellery brands, even traditional ones, are introducing or expanding their men’s collections to include bracelets, pins, pendants, rings and studs.

The right way to wear men’s jewellery is likewise debatable; less is more, some say, while others assert that men should be able to wear whatever they want in the 21st century. Here we highlight a few pieces that will satisfy either view.

Chantecler’s pink-gold pin in black enamel, from its Paillettes collection, is discreet but would garner a second look. Flirting with that fine line between safe and trendy is Chanel’s Coco Crush ring in 18K yellow or white gold, and David Yurman’s Cable Spira bracelet made with blackened silver set with black diamonds. For the more adventurous, there’s the Joaillerie Gourmette de Dior ring in 18K yellow or white gold, which is blingy but in a refined way; and for some colour, check out Hermès’ equestrian-inspired silver bracelet set with jasper and onyx slices engraved in relief, from its Chevauchée line. The bracelet’s centre stone is framed with diamonds embedded on black rhodium. Now, gentlemen, it’s your time to shine. Clockwise from above: Drive de Cartier watch; Paillettes pin by Chantecler; Cable Spira bracelet by David Yurman; Chevauchée bracelet by Hermès; Coco Crush ring by Chanel; Joaillerie Gourmette de
