Bold and the Brave
Long live the revolution. Jacob & Co pushes the boundaries of haute horology with its latest groundbreaking complications and rare designs that challenge the status quo
The ultra-luxury house Jacob & Co has been creating disruptive timepieces and exquisite diamond jewellery for more than three decades. The revolution continues with three bold new designs unveiled at Baselworld 2018, the Astronomia Maestro, the Twin Turbo Furious, and a timepiece collaboration with the brand’s new ambassador, football star Luis Figo.
The Astronomia watch collection has been a sky-high success for the avant-garde American brand and the celebration shifts into outer space with the release of the Astronomia Maestro. The result of a collaboration between founder Jacob Arabo and master watchmaker Luca Soprana, the out-of-this-world timepiece features a lacquered magnesium globe that rotates on its own axis and travels around the entire watch front as well. The moonphase indicator is represented by a 288 facet, half-white, half-black diamond. This “moon” rotates around the movement over a span of 10 minutes and revolves around its own axis every 31 days. The pièce de résistance is a sculpture of an astronaut floating weightlessly within the Astronomia universe.
Arabo’s latest grand complication is officially called the Twin Turbo Furious and unofficially “the watch of all extremes.” And with good reason. It boasts an intricate combination of a twin accelerated triple axis sequential tourbillon, a minute repeater and a mono-pusher chronograph. The watch is wound up through the crank placed on the crown at 3 o’clock. The minute repeater slide is located at 9 o’clock. The smoked sapphire crystal dial provides an eye-catching view of the movement with the Jacob & Co logo, a red neoralithe inner ring with seconds graduation, and luminescent indexes. Cased in black DLC titanium and carbon fibre, the Twin Turbo Furious is both gargantuan (57mm x 52mm) and complex (88 components). In sum, this brave beast of a watch is destined to become an iconic piece.
In partnership with the Portuguese football legend Luis Figo, Jacob & Co has created three limited edition watches based on the brand’s Epic X Chrono timepiece. Each version of the new Epic X Chrono Luis Figo watch features Figo’s name engraved on the back, and his signature and jersey number, 10, in red on the dial. The watch’s case measures 47mm in diameter and is water resistant to 200 metres. Fitted with the exclusive Jacob & Co JCAA05 skeletonised self-winding chronograph movement, it has 48 hours of power reserve. The limited edition collection, all equipped with black rubber wristbands, is limited to 110 pieces: 50 in rose gold, 30 in black DLC titanium, and 30 in titanium.
