The Awards Ceremony
A highlight of the ball each year, the Tatler Awards Ceremony was hosted by Edipresse Media Asia’s chief content officer and managing director (Hong Kong), Sean Fitzpatrick, with Michel Lamunière presenting the awards.
This year saw the inauguration of the Global Unity Award, an honour that recognises those building bridges between East and West in finding solutions to global challenges. It went to billionaire Russian tech investor Yuri Milner and his wife, Julia, who established the Breakthrough Prize Foundation, which honours and provides funding for researchers making important advances in the life sciences, fundamental physics and mathematics.
The award for Most Promising Young Lady, sponsored by Fancl, went to Joanna Lui Hickox for her entrepreneurial design-focused lifestyle cafe, Cha Bei, and her support of the Galaxy Entertainment Group Foundation, which conducts philanthropic activities in Macau and Mainland China.
Ming Ho-tang received the award for Most Stylish Woman and, based on comments throughout the room, it was recognition well-deserved and long overdue. Ming certainly radiated a striking presence on stage in her ombre Oscar de la Renta gown and a dazzling pear-shaped rubellite necklace by award sponsor Chopard.
The Diamond Award went to Peter Woo in recognition of his contributions to the business, philanthropic and cultural life of the city. Sponsored by The Macallan, the award comes with a HK$100,000 cheque from Hong Kong Tatler for a charity of the winner’s choice. Peter nominated Mother’s Choice— and pledged to match it dollar for dollar, the first recipient to do so.
