Synonymous with the world’s finest and rarest gems, Moussaieff Jewellers is at the epicentre of luxury jewellery thanks to its extraordinary high jewellery creations

- BY TAMARA MOUSSAIEFF

Moussaieff Jewellers is the result of 800 years of exquisite gem expertise. While its flagship store is on London’s Bond Street, the brand has a further London boutique, a bustling store in Geneva, Switzerland, and a very active office in Hong Kong. Our speciality is the unique: seamlessly blending art with jewellery making by incorporating white and coloured diamonds as well as rare, semiprecious gemstones of exceptional quality into each and every design.

For example, the striking high jewellery Butterfly bracelet has the appearance of a gold coloured red carpet and is made of 550 miniature yellow diamond ‘torches.’ These transmit intermittent flashes of yellow light, offering a sparkle so strong it borders on the surreal. The piece expresses artistic strength, yet it is so pliable it folds almost like paper—rolling and unrolling like a carpet. The undulating movement increases the playful light between the yellow diamonds of various shades.

These shades were especially chosen to interact with each other in order to emit an intense, gold coloured, even texture. The gold butterflies are skillfully crafted miniature sculptures, superimposed to give this bracelet a highly artistic, three dimensional edge. Their positioning and angles introduce a distinct sense of surrealism and fragility. The short lived mortality of the butterfly is in sharp contrast to the strength and eternity of the vivid yellow diamonds. With its sheer beauty and artistic meaning, this is a jewel like no other.

The spectacular high jewellery earrings, meanwhile, are composed of two certified fancy deep orangebrown pear shaped diamonds of VVS 1 clarity. They weigh an impressive 35.66 and 35.82 carats respectively, and are worn below emeralds and yellow diamonds. The sheer size of these matching coloured diamonds is something that’s almost never seen, while their vibrancy, precise saturation and very high brilliance put them in the ‘super rare’ category.

A subtle hint of orange in the diamonds is intensified under strong incandescent light and emits an otherworldly glow, highlighting the very strong dispersion from the side facets, which throw colourful flashes of light in all directions. A very strict adherence to ideal proportions pays off aesthetically, and the result is both visually striking and dramatic. The yellow diamond and green emerald combination shows off avant garde panache, while still allowing the brown pear shaped stones to take centre stage.

Brown diamonds have traditionally been regarded as a secondary colour, unworthy of attention in comparison to red, pink, blue or green, for example. But the price of the latter now frequently runs into the millions of dollars per carat. This has forced those passionate about coloured diamonds, such as Moussaieff, to take a second look at secondary colours, including brown. In these breathtakingly beautiful earrings, Alisa Moussaieff has perfected this new style, proving once again that beauty—when true and absolute— transcends all norms and breaks all boundaries.

Last but not least, crowns and tiaras have adorned the heads of the monarchy since time immemorial. More recently, tiaras have become de rigueur, with royal fashion icons such as Diana, Princess of Wales and the Duchesses of Sussex and Kent choosing to wear them to relatively informal occasions. The beauty and popularity of the tiara are entwined with its versatility, lending itself to a wide array of designs due to its playful style. Of course, a large part of a tiara’s appeal is its majesty, something women today are excited to adopt.

It places them a cut above, and allows them to express their own individual and artistic sense of style. A lady who wears these headpieces does so with the knowledge that she is unique. Her taste reflects deep sophistication, as well as a profoundly in-depth knowledge of design, style and colour.

Moussaieff ’s superb high jewellery tiara set, with more than 88 carats of white diamonds, is a departure from longstanding aesthetic norms. In its perfect design execution, the bulk of the smaller white, brilliant diamonds are packed into an inverted Edwardian-style chandelier, while the larger pear shaped diamonds attain luminous importance amid the attractive rococo curves.

This magnificent, cohesive mixture of Edwardian and rococo styles conveys a highly contemporary air of seriousness-meets-playfulness. All of which is superimposed on an en tremblant structure, which adds movement, as well as mystery and surprise that never fails to tantalise the imagination.
