French painter Georges Mathieu was one of the fathers of the lyrical abstractio­n movement in the 1940s and 50s. Rather than sticking with the geometric style of the era, he opted instead for distinct, free-flowing brushstrok­es that were partly inspired by calligraph­y. perrotin.com

SIGG PRIZE EXHIBITION M+ PAVILION DECEMBER 6 TO APRIL 13

This exhibition showcases works by the six shortliste­d artists for the inaugural Sigg Price, which recognises exceptiona­l art from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The artists—hu Xiaoyuan, Liang Shuo, Shen Yin, Lin Yilin, Tao Hui and Samson Young—have spent the past two years creating works for the show that address a variety of topics. The Los Angeles-based artist, a primary member of the Light and Space movement of the 1960s, is perhaps best known for making art with industrial materials such as plastic epoxies and resins, resulting in works that appear to generate light. Her first solo exhibition in Asia, which is split between Lehmann Maupin’s Seoul and Hong Kong locations, encompasse­s her Column, Lens, Sphere and wall-mounted sculpture series. lehmannmau­pin.com
