5 Engagement Ring Trends for 2021
London-based jeweller Emma Clarkson Webb talks us through this year’s five biggest engagement ring styles
1 Black diamonds
I’ve always thought that black diamonds are cool, mysterious and edgy. When set in yellow or rose gold, this stone’s darkness is incredibly striking and it acts as a great alternative for somebody who doesn’t want a traditional white diamond sparkler.
2 Halo settings
An ageless design that has a modern twist is essential for my clients, and the octagon or hexagon shape of a halo setting helps to create a unique look without compromising the ring’s timelessness.
3 Colour
Colourful jewellery is becoming very fashionable, and I’m seeing an increased interest in blue and green gemstones. Teal-coloured sapphires are the perfect mix of both but can be tricky to find.
4 Mix and match
If you’re looking for an antique- or vintage-style ring, mixing cuts is a great way to go. Tapered baguettes with round-, bullet- or epaulettecut diamonds are perfect if you want an art decoinspired look with a splash of modernity.
5 Remodelling
A lot of clients have been bringing me sentimentally valuable jewellery that they’ve inherited but doesn’t work for them on a practical or aesthetic level. I love incorporating existing family heirlooms into a new design because it makes your engagement ring even more meaningful.
