Tatler Hong Kong

IN THE MOOD FOR BOOZE?

Christopher Doyle’s cinematography is known for its haziness. Now we know why. The Australian filmmaker and frequent Wong Kar-wai collaborator, who reputedly starts each day with a beer for breakfast, has brought out his own ale. In a collaboration with edgy Hong Kong brewer Carbon Brews, Doyle launched I Drink Therefore I Am, a double hazy IPA, described as “dank and juicy on the palate with papaya and citrus peel”. Although Doyle is the subject of a documentary set to premiere this year, it’s small fry when he now has a beer with his name on it. “Who needs an Oscar when you can have your own beer?” he says. We have every faith it’ll be a classier brew than the cans of Heineken that reportedly led to Doyle getting booked for public disturbance near the Lan Kwai Fong 7-Eleven as a fresh emigré to the city.
